The chin plays an important part in the symmetry of a Men’s face. Chin Enlargement Surgery, also called Genioplasty reshapes the so called “weak” or “recessive” chin, improving the contour of the chin and therefore the overall structure of the facial features resulting in a more masculine jaw line.
Mr Ferrando performs this procedure using either the patient’s own fat or a small implant placed through the mouth with no external scars.
Chin Enlargement Surgery may be combined with other procedures that improve your facial profile such as Nose Correction and Liposuction.
Chin Enlargement Surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthetic combined with oral or I.V.sedation. It takes 2-3 hours to complete depending on the exact procedure required.
Mr Ferrando will discuss all aspects of the Chin Enlargement procedure suitable to you at your consultations.
Types of Chin Enlargement
Silicone Implants are usually used for Chin Enlargement Surgery which are available in a variety of different sizes and shapes and can be further modified, to meet the individual needs of the patient.
Fat Transfer procedures only use the patient’s own fat taken from another part of the body.
The Consultation
At the consultations, Mr Ferrando will take your medical history, thoroughly assess you, find out about your expectations of the surgery and will explain each stage of Chin Enlargement procedure to you. He will carefully discuss all options suitable to you and answer any questions you may have. The exact procedure depends on the anatomy of the patient. Clear communication about your aesthetic goals is vital at this stage.
Mr Ferrando will also explain the risks of smoking and medications to you, as they can interfere with the procedure as well as the healing process.
Mr Ferrando strongly believes that “good communication and feedback” between himself and his patients assures a maximum satisfactory outcome of Cosmetic Surgery.
The Procedure
Your face will be numbed through local anesthetic with oral or I.V. sedation, but you may have prefer general anesthetic if surgery is combined with other surgical procedures.
Chin Implants are typically placed through an incision made inside the lower lip or through a natural skin crease located beneath the chin. Mr Ferrando will use the implant, discussed with you at your consultation, that would best enhance your appearance and insert it into a pocket created over the front of the jawbone. The incisions will be closed and bandages applied if the cut was placed under the chin.
Fat Tranfer procedures start with an extraction of fat from other areas your body such as abdomen, thighs, buttocks.Local antithetic will be used to numb these areas to eliminate any discomfort during the procedure. The fat will be cleansed to then be carefully injected into your chin. The new shape and form of your chin will have been discussed at your consultation.
After Surgery – Recovery
After Chin Enlargement surgery, the bandage must be kept on for the first two days. Drainage tubes may be attached to your face but will be removed 1-2 days after surgery. There isn’t usually any significant discomfort after surgery; Mr.Ferrando will prescribe you pain relief medication to ease your discomfort, just in case you should experience any pain.
You should feel fine after 2-3 days after surgery, but patients are recommended to have at least one week off work to allow their body to rest and recover comfortably at home. Any strenuous exercise or activities should be avoided for at least 2 weeks after surgery.
It is very important to keep your head in an elevated position as it will aid the recovery process. Some type of stitches are dissolvable and will disappear over time, whereas others will need to be removed 5 to 7 days after surgery. You can expect a some swelling and you chin might feel partially numb for a few weeks.
Follow up appointments will be made for you after surgery, but if you have any questions, or you should feel unsure about anything, please contact Mr Ferrando and he will gladly talk to you. The well being of his patients is of utmost importance to him.
