Men – Eyelid Lift
Eyelid Lift, also called Upper Blepharoplasty, is the removal of excessive, sagging or wrinkled skin, as well as fat and muscle. Blepharoplasty can also be performed on the lower eyelids to remove bags underneath the eye area. Both procedures are regularly performed at the same time and commonly combined with other facial procedures such as Facelift, Mini Facelift as well as other facial procedures.
As men age, the skin begins to sag and droop, especially around the eyes, and this can give you a tired and aged look. Blepharoplasty can restore the youthful look to the eyes by removing unwanted excess fat, muscle and skin from around the eye area.
Eyelid Lift surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis under local anaesthetic, with oral or I.V. sedation, and usually takes 1 to 2 hours to complete.
Mr Ferrando will discuss all aspects of the Eyelid Lift procedure to you at your consultations.
The Consultation
At the consultation Mr Ferrando will take your medical history. He will thoroughly assess you, find out about your expectations of the surgery, and explain each stage of your Eyelid Lift to you. He will carefully discuss all the options most suitable for you, and answer any questions you may have.
Mr Ferrando strongly believes that “good communication and feedback” between himself and his patients greatly assures the maximum satisfactory outcome to all Cosmetic Surgery procedures.
The Procedure
Mr Ferrando will mark the excess amount of skin to be removed, while you are in an upright position.
The incision lines are drawn in the eyelid crease, allowing enough skin to remain for adequate eye closure. A small incision is made along the marked lines in the natural eyelid fold. The excessively hanging skin and the underlying redundant eyelid muscle will then be precisely trimmed and incisions closed with very fine sutures.
After Surgery – Recovery
After the Eyelid Lift surgery, there isn’t usually any significant discomfort. It is normal to experience light bruising and swelling around the eye area. You might feel a sensation of dry eyes. Mr Ferrando will prescribe you pain relief medication and eye-drops before you leave the clinic.
You should feel fine after 1-2 days after surgery, but patients are recommended to have at least one week off work to allow their body to rest and recover comfortably at home. Avoid using computer, watching t.v., reading and also wearing contact lenses Any strenuous exercise or activities should be avoided for at least 2 weeks after surgery.
It is very important to keep your head in an elevated position as it will aid the recovery process. Cold compresses may be applied to reduce the swelling and bruises. Stitches will need to be removed 5 to 7 days after surgery.
Follow up appointments will be made for you after surgery, but if you have any questions, or you should feel unsure about anything, please contact Mr Ferrando and he will gladly talk to you. The well being of his patients is of utmost importance to him.
Risks and Side Effects
All surgeries carry certain risks and even though they are rare you should be aware of them before making your decision. Mr Ferrando will talk you through any possible risks and side effects at his consultations as they will vary depending on the patient’s body shape, age, condition and lifestyle.
