Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical technique that improves the body’s shape and contour by removing excess fat from deposits located between the skin and muscle.

It’s the ideal procedure for women who have fat deposits which are inherited and cannot be lost through dieting or exercise. Liposuction aims to eradicate excessive stubborn fat from these hard to shift areas. It’s a sculpting procedure that can change the contours of your body and face. The most treated areas in Liposuction are chin, arms, abdomen, back, inner and outer thighs, knees and ankles.

Liposuction involves the use of a small stainless steel tube which is connected to a powerful suction pump and inserted into the fat through small incisions in the skin. Fat removal is accomplished as the suction tube create tiny tunnels through the fatty layers. After surgery, these tiny tunnels collapse and result in an improved body contour.

Liposuction not only helps to restore the physical appearance of the patient, but also restores self-confidence and self-esteem.

Liposuction can be performed in more than one area, depending on the fat deposits to be removed.

It is usually performed under local anesthetic and takes 1 to 3 hours to complete

Mr Ferrando will discuss all aspects of the the Liposuction procedure suitable to you at your consultations.

The Consultation

At the consultations, Mr Ferrando will take your medical history, thoroughly assess you, find out about your expectations of the surgery and will explain each stage of Liposuction procedure to you. He will carefully discuss all options suitable to you and answer any questions you may have. The exact procedure depends on the anatomy of the patient. Clear communication about your aesthetic goals is vital at this stage.

Mr Ferrando will also explain the risks of smoking, the contraceptive pill and other medications to you, as they can interfere with the procedure as well as the healing process.

Mr Ferrando strongly believes that “good communication and feedback” between himself and his patients assures a maximum satisfactory outcome of Cosmetic Surgery.

The Procedure

Mr Ferrando performs Liposuction using the Tumescent Technique which consists of injecting the fatty tissues with a large amount of anesthetic liquid plus a medication which causes the blood vessels to constrict. The liquid causes the compartments of fat to become swollen and firm. The expanded fat compartments allow the liposuction tubes to travel smoothly beneath the skin breaking down fat cells which are then suctioned out with a vacuum pump or suction syringe.

The Tumescent Technique is a method that can reduce post operative bruising, swelling and pain. Blood loss is minimized and the Liposuction Procedure is more comfortable for the patient.

There are no incisions to be sutured after Liposuction. A compression garment may be applied to the treated area.

After Surgery – Recovery

After the surgery, you may a little sore and experience bruising and swelling. Mr Ferrando will provide you pain relief medication and antibiotics to ease your discomfort.

You may need to wear the compressive garment for a few weeks to support the healing process. Adhesive bandages will be taken off 7-10 days after surgery. It is very important to walk around as soon as you can, to avoid the developing of blood clots.

You should feel much better 2-3 days after surgery, but patients are recommended to have at least 3-5 days off work to allow their body to rest and recover comfortably at home. Any strenuous exercise or activities should be avoided for at least 3-4 weeks after surgery.

Follow up appointments will be made for you after surgery, but if you have any unusual symptoms between visits, or any questions about what you can and can’t do , please contact Mr Ferrando and he will gladly talk to you. The well being of his patients is of utmost importance to him.

Risks and Side Effects
All surgeries carry certain risks and even though they are rare you should be aware of them before making your decision. Mr Ferrando will talk you through any possible risks and side effects at his consultations as they will vary depending on the patient’s body shape, age, condition and lifestyle.
