FAQ

Q. Would it be correct to say that you are importing what one could call an 'Italian style' of surgery over to England?

I don't know if it's Italian style or otherwise, but I believe that any aesthetic result must be absolutely natural. That's why the outcome of this particular area of medical surgery should be highly elegant!

Q. Do you normally do the follow-up of your patients yourself?

Yes, of course. It's one of my unassailable principles as I consider the follow-up very important. I think this delicate part of the operation must be checked by the surgeon who carries out the procedure, especially during the first post-operative days. I meet and check my patients over the years following the operation.

Q. Do you perform aesthetic or functional rhinoplasty?

I do both together and make sure that, even when the patient comes just to improve the appearance of the nose, she/ he can breathe even better after the surgery. The nose must be beautiful and adapted to each patient's face. In fact, there is no nose that is right for everyone. The nose must be studied respecting the proportions and harmony of the face.
However, we must consider the function of the nose, which is to breathe. Therefore, during the operation it is mandatory to also work on the functional part and make sure the patient also breathes better after the operation.

Q. Although you draw on your variety of training in every type of operation, is there a particular skill you prefer?

I normally operate on the body, face and neck, but the face and neck are my favourite parts. I practise blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), facelifts and rhinoplasty, where facial harmony is of the utmost importance.

Q. You've had major success repairing a famous English singer's face after surgeons from all over the world refused to operate on him because of the difficulty of the task. This brought you fame and got your name published in newspapers worldwide.

Yes, that was a very high profile case. I'm proud to say that over the course of my career l've had many similar cases of damage caused by permanent fillers, which - I am delighted to say - I have been able to repair. You can't imagine how many people have been happy just to be able to smile again!

Q. Speaking about fillers, what is your professional view of them?

I think that fillers such as Botox® often help to finish and complete an operation and sometimes they can even postpone surgery.

I have extensive experience, built-up over many years, in removing permanent fillers that can cause dramatically negative effects over time.

That's why I only use the best reabsorbable fillers that give the best results and last without the problems of permanent ones.

Q. Do you use fat from the body as a filler, which is so popular nowadays?
A. I have done that for over 20 years. I find this technique very successful because the stem cells in the fat rejuvenate the skin. The fat can be frozen and used many times!
Q. Why is it more difficult to obtain a natural result?

A natural result should be the goal of every plastic surgeon.
Personally, I care a lot about the result which must be beautiful but natural.
Giving a natural result, surgically speaking, is more difficult and demanding. Let's take the case of a facelift for example. If the surgeon operates only on the skin, without touching the structures that support the skin, you will have a fake and tight face which will tend to sag in a short time.
The surgeon must work on the facial muscles first, then adjust the skin accordingly.
Only in this way is it possible to respect the characteristics of the patient and give good results that last over time. The patient will appear fresher, younger but still her/ himself
